overlays turn off text colors

From: David Ponce
Subject: overlays turn off text colors
Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2000 17:07:34 +0200 (MET DST)

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

In GNU Emacs 20.7.1 (sparc-sun-solaris2.7, X toolkit)
 of Fri Jun 16 2000 on node1
configured using `configure --with-x-toolkit=yes'

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

When an overlay is created just using (make-overlay BEG END) the text
colors are turned off between BEG and END.

Seems to occurs only in my Solaris version of Emacs. Works well on my NT
-Emacs 20.7.1.

I just started emacs with emacs -q then enabled global font lock mode
using the Help/Options menu. I started editing a new (elisp) file with
font-locking turned on, all colors were good. Then I do M-: (make-
overlay 1 10) and colors were turned off in the 1-10 region :-(
