Well, I'm not sure what happens with kmail (lots of novices use KDE
these days, right?), but the CDE and OpenWin mail tools leave their
mail in /var/spool/mail/jrl.  This way, people can switch from one
mailer to another without problems.

Of course, newbies don't know anything about problems with file
locking...
