Re: emacs -nw: quail input during search messes up window alignment

In emacs -nw
C-s SPC C-s C-\ SPC C-s C-s C-s C-a C-f C-f C-f C-x = C-n C-n

The first three characters are a regular search for a SPC, everything is fine.
However I then go into quail mode, to look for SPC in this case, but
looking for anything will probably provoke the same bug.

The screen becomes vertically misaligned and emacs doesn't know what
character it is on: the modeline has become too long and wrapped,
probably from trying to say the input mode name in Chinese in the
modeline which comes out as ASCII. The wrapped modeline persists even
after we return to non quail mode and hit C-l etc.

One can see Chinese characters in the text but not in the modeline.
