comint-previous-prompt often distracted... perhaps use a mark list

I often notice in shell mode that C-c C-p, comint-previous-prompt,
often gets distracted by other junk in the buffer matching its regular
expression, and can't find its way to where the last prompt was.
Maybe it should instead keep a list of "buffer mark" positions.
