I'd like to propose that M-x find-file be modified so that with a 0
argument (M-0 C-x C-f) it always finds the file in fundamental mode,
regardless of the file extension and ignoring any -*-mode-*- strings
and file variables found in the file.
I find myself wanting this pretty often, mostly to look at my news
archives which are stored as rmail files. I usually want to read into
a single buffer that I can search for strings without having the file
chopped into separate messages. There are other times I want it too,
of course.
Regards
Paul
