Eli> Suggesting that I have only nostalgia to back up my opinion is an

Well your reason was that users would expect getting an error message
when trying to delete a directory. And attempting to delete a
directory for the sake of getting an error message reaffirming that
the rmdir system call will only unlink empty subdirectories was what I
called "nostalgia". Ok, probably a bad choice of words. I
apologize. Still I would like to hear some reason beyond "people have
grown to expect this to fail" for keeping the current default
semantics.

Anyhow, I have already stated my opinion on that, though ill-worded,
and getting more repetitive about that one is not going to help
anybody.

Thanks for caring about Emacs,
