I would be worried about using Dired to delete if it would delete a
subdirectory and its contents without asking me. I would not want to
make that the default. However, it looks like `top' does something
different--it will ask about the directory I marked for deletion, and
its only effect is not to ask about any subdirs of that directory.
That seems like a reasonable default to me.
There are other alternatives besides that one and the present behavior;
some of them might be good. This could be one of them:
Actually, it might be a good idea to have a three-way answer for 'top:
namely yes/no/ask, or all/yes/no: let the user still have the choice
at the moment of deletion to decide whether he wants to be asked for
every subdirectory.
