I don't know editres.  I started it, used the Get Tree command,
activated emacs -> dialog -> Q6BR3 -> button1, used the Show Resource
Box command, and in the new dialog, I clicked on foreground,
background, and a few other resources.  I didn't see any "current
value" for the resources I clicked.  A cursory look at the man page
didn't tell me, either.  So I cannot say where or how and to what
value the resource has been set.

Of course it might be possible -- but I only use the Xresources file.
You would have to claim that the debian stable setup I have here is
broken in some way.
