Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

In Dired, place the cursor on a file which existed when the dired was
started or last reverted but no longer exists. Type v to run the
dired-view-file command. No error is reported although the
secret message "(New file)" is in the *Message* buffer.

The dired-advertised-find-file command correctly reports the error.
