I checked.
What is happening is that there is a file
in my home directory named #*mail*#.......# (where ....
are numbers/letters).
When I kill the buffer, this file disappears.
When I type mail-recover, another filename is given
which then gives the 'not found' message.

Do you see the file by that name in your home directory, or is the
file simply not there?
