Why not allow the user to click on things in list-colors-display to
instantly change background color, etc.
Also provide a thing to click on that would do sight increments in
lightness & darkness ... yes, just like that button on a Xerox
machine.
And make sure to tell them the #AABBCC of the shade they finally
settle on, so they can stick it into their .emacs .
Maybe this is already all done in "custom"land, but I never go there,
due to bad early childhood experiences.
Anyway, netscape has this honeycomb of colors to click on. perhaps
emacs needs a 'logically ordered honeycomb, with granularity, size of
boxes choseable by user, up to 0xFFFFFF tiny boxes on your screen'
