I cannot reproduce this with
Emacs 21.1, X11, GNU/Linux
emacs -q -no-site-file
M-x load-file <ret> ps-print <ret>
M-x customize-option <ret> ps-paper-size <ret>
Change "letter" to "kurt"
Push mouse-2 on [Set for Current Session]
I get a nice error message "Unknown paper size".
It is true that the cursor doesn't move, though.
