PCL-CVS checkin impossible

Symptoms:

When I check in a file into CVS with the C-x vv command, the dialog
for the change messages opens correctly. When pressing C-c C-c to
acutally check in, I get the following error message

setq: Wrong number of arguments: #<subr directory-files>, 5

Help is appreciated!

In GNU Emacs 21.3.50 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars)
