The Editor.
Nigeriaworld,

Dear Editor,

y name is Adeniyi Oremule. I am a Nigerian living abroad. Could you allow me some space in your daily Newspaper to publish how I was duped by this so called professional Estate Surveyors and Valuers "Diya, Fatimilehin Company"

In December 2001 I called the office of Diya, Fatimilehin Company located at Plot 237B, Muri Okunola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State from United State where I spoke to one of their staff members by the name of Dayo Akinwotu to inquire about properties they have for sale. Ms Dayo Akinwotu informed me of three properties located along Lagos - Epe Road.

In December 2001 I arrived in Nigeria and I attended Diya , Fatimilehin Company Office in Victoria Island where I met the said Ms Dayo Akinwotu.

Ms Akinwotu introduced me to one of her bosses by the name of Mrs. Oluwatoyin Amlabu who heads the head office sales department. I was shown three pieces of land on Epe Road including a piece at Crown Estate in Sangotedo Plot 29 Block 1. I choose a piece (Plot 29 Block 1) at Crown Estate. I was then given two weeks to come up with the money amounting to N3.5million. I negotiated on the price and it was agreed on N2,900,000.00 to sell the land including the professional and solicitor fees.

As instructed by Mrs. Amlabu, a deposit of N350,000.00 was paid on 15th of January 2002 to secure the offer I made on the land.

On Monday the 21st of January 2002, I attended Diya , Fatimilehin Company in Victoria Island, Lagos State where I handed the said Dayo Akinwotu 2 drafts from Lead Merchant Bank amounting to N2,550,000.00 for the said property in the name of Diya, Fatimilehin Company. These drafts were collected by Ms Akinwotu on behalf of Mrs. Amlabu and I was informed to attend the office the next day for the transferring of the documents which I did. Documents were handed over to me.

A letter was written to Crown Estate Realities by Diya , Fatimilehin Company on my behalf which I endorsed with my signature. The letter read " Re' Ownership of Plot 29 Block 1 Crown Estate, Sangotedo Lekki Lagos - I write to inform you that the above captioned plot of land has just been assigned to me by Waje Investments Ltd. I attach herewith a copy of letter from Waje Investment to that effect, kindly effect necessary charges in your records. Please note also that the representatives of Diya, Fatimilehin & Co of No. 237B Muri Okunola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos will be liasing with you in respect of this, they have been authorized to handle this on my behalf". This is what the letter read

At the end of January 2002 a letter was sent to my address in Lagos by Crown Estate Realities. This letter was dated January 31, 2002 and read " Re Plot 29 Block 1 Crown Estate Lekki Pennisula - Dear Sir, we acknowledge the receipt of your letter of January 23, 2002 regarding the above subject matter. We however regret to inform you that the transformer we bought from Mr. Ibezimakor, part of which money we paid him with the plot turned out defected and we have since returned same to him. We are still to recover the sum of N2.75 we paid him in cash. In the light of frustration the transaction suffered, the sale of the above plot to him therefore cannot subsist". This is what the letter read.

In February 2002, after I received the said letter and I telephoned Mrs. Amlabu to find out if she received copy of the said letter from Crown Realities. Her reply was no and I told her to give me her fax number or e-mail address so I could send her a copy of the said letter. Neither e-mail address nor fax number was working at the time.

What I did was to send copies of the said letter to my sister who personally delivered the said copies to Mrs. Amlabu at her office in Victoria Island.

About two days later I telephoned Mrs. Amlabu to find out if she had received the said letter from my sister, her reply was "yes".

She promised to look into the situation and call me back. Week after week, I kept on calling her to find out what is going on.

The last time I spoke to her in February she promised to have a meeting with Mr. Darl Uzu of Crown Realities and Mr. William Odeh and after the meeting she will call me to let me know the status. I did not hear anything from her and I kept on calling her to find out the status.

Whenever I called her cellular phone different people answered her phone and told me she was in a meeting. I left messages. I was very frustrated. In the month of February because I could not get to speak to her like she was trying to avoid my call and my phone bills for that month alone was $560.00US, I could not believe this could have happened with a so called professional company who according to them they control 85% of Real Estate in Nigeria.

In mid April 2002 I telephoned Mrs. Amlabu again and asked her the status with the property because I was planning to start construction on the property but, was advised by Crown Realties that no construction could start until the matter as stated in their letter to me was sorted. She told me that she had a meeting with Mr. Uzu of Crown Realities and there was a mistake with the property, that Mr. Odeh who is the owner of the property has two properties and the letter sent to me was concerning the second property.

The following day I telephoned Mr. Uzu myself to confirm what Mrs. Amlabu told me and I found out the statement was untrue, so I called Mrs. Amlabu back and expressed my dis-satifaction. She told me she will look into it and get back to one of my sisters in Lagos.

In May 2002 my two sisters visited her office. They spoke to Mr. Komolafe who is also partner for the said company along with Mrs. Amlabu, both persons promised to have meeting with the Crown Realities and sort out the problem. Mr. Komolafe also promised to give my sisters a call which he did not.

Right now I am very disappointed with the way I was treated. The number of phone calls I made to this company ( Diya, Fatimilehin) in a month during this past five months is unbelievable. The treatment I got from this company is unjust. I paid Diya, Fatimilehin Company the professional and the solicitor fees. They collected my money and did not care. I would like Nigerians at home, abroad or investors to be aware of dealing with Diya, Fatimilehin Company. People work hard for their money and I do not see why anybody should take the advantage of other. I believe that justice will be done. I am at this time mentally distressed I have suffered and treated unfair. I pray that justice will be done.

After all this, sometime in June 2002 I wrote a letter to Mr. Kolawole Diya and a copy to Mr. Gboyega Fatimilehin explained my situation and what I suffered from their company through DHL Courier, I did not hear anything from them. I checked the DHL Office to find out if they received the said documents and was told that the documents were delivered.

I did not hear anything from them until about two months later when the Company Attorney by the name of Nwachukwu sent me an email asking me to sign a document called Power of Attorney. I refused to sign the said document, I emailed him back and informed him of my intent to sue the Company.
