bug#1100: 23.0.60; variable-pitch face corruption when Helvetica Type 1

From: gdedwards
Subject: bug#1100: 23.0.60; variable-pitch face corruption when Helvetica Type 1 font installed
Date: Mon, 6 Oct 2008 10:15:24 +0100 (BST)

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

When I installed a CVS build of Emacs for Windows 32 I found that the
splash screen had corrupted fonts. Further investigation revealed that
removing the Helvetica Type 1 PostScript font from my font folder made the
issue go away (presumably because it has fallen through to Arial).
