The code around there is this:

#if HAVE_X_WINDOWS
  if (x_catching_errors ())
    abort ();
#endif

So, it seems that some X error happened.  Please check the
contents of x_error_message to see what kind of error
happened.

And also please start Emacs, do ESC : (x-synchronize t),
then do M-x set-frame-font.
