This is here:
if (! NULL_RIGHT_CHILD (i))
{
i = i->right;
while (! NULL_LEFT_CHILD (i)) <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
i = i->left;
Which means we enter this fragment with 'i' that is non-NULL, but an
invalid pointer.
I don't see how to catch this except on a debugger.
