I thought it was obvious: Changing the whitespace usage is not a
simple job, and no one will normally do that.  So having different
defaults will silently and subtly cause a change in project-wide
conventions, something that I think is undesirable.

There are also mixed C/C++ projects, where different defaults will
cause similar problems.

In short, these two languages are just too similar and inter-related
to justify using the same defaults in this regard.
