Here is  another patch to give us diagnostics at a lower level.

Harry: This touches files in the gl/ directory, so it'll be necessary
to apply it after all configuration (but I think you said you do that anyway).

Henry:  If you execute your tests from the command line, with a comand similar
to "pspp -o output.txt test-syntax.sps" then you will find it easier to 
distinguish
between the normal output and the test diagnostics.
