We tried to implement gnu tar because of it's multi-tape benefits
over regular tar. The -M feature works fine when executed from the
basic command prompt but not when executed within a script.
The prompt for an additional tape would appear but the process would
never wait for the prompt to be answered.
How exactly is the script invoking tar?
For GNU tar 1.13.18 <ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/tar/tar-1.13.18.tar.gz>,
tar reads from /dev/tty if the archive is "-", and from standard input
otherwise. Does this explain your problem?
