gnu locate 4.1 crashes with core dump

madam, sir,

on some of our hosts (sun sparc workstations running solaris 2.6.1), locate 
crashes with "Segmentation Fault - core dumped", after some searching.  
interestingly on other hosts with the identical setup, locate works w/o 
problems.

is there a known bug that crashes locate under certain circumstances?

if i can help with more informations please let me know what.
