Creating new commands that are nearly identical to existing commands
is definitely bad; new command-line options would be preferable. But
removing old commands or command names (or any other kind of
interface) will break any existing use of them; the gain of a few K on
disk isn't worth it. In practice, this would be a bigger problem for
egrep than for dir, but the principle applies generally.
