Problem with tar...

Dear Sir,

My name is Emmanuel and I'm trying to install an SDK.
I loaded it and I would like to install it.
The problem is that the file is a .tgz form and I can
not manage to decompresse it even by :
tar xzvf file.tgz
The answer is :
   ./
   ./include
   ./include/bfd.h
   tar: Skipping to next file header

   gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--format
violated
   tar: Child return status 1
   tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

I can not understand why this problem appears...
I strongly hope you will find a few minutes to help
me.
