I'd like to request some kind of --quiet option.
Output from commands run by cron is mailed to the user. When I run tar
that way, I would like to know when something went wrong, so I don't
redirect output to /dev/null. It would be very nice to be able to make
tar quiet with some option when there is nothing to worry about.
E.g. I always get the following comments:
tar: Removing leading `/' from member names
tar: foo.sock: socket ignored
and would like to turn them off.
