gettext_12.html
(from the gettext 0.11 distribution)
(I quickly checked that there is nothing newer
on the ftp.alpha.gnu site, to try to help
reduce chance of submitting already submitted ones)

Perhaps "authenticate", or "verify" ?

Footnote #1)

I think it would be easier to follow the examples in this section (12),
if they used the gnu hello program rather than the gettext program as
the sample program being internationalized, because it is a bit
confusing when the program to be translated is the gettext program
itself.

Footnote #2)
In section 12.4.6, I'm guessing that a better way is to put all the
gettext m4 files into an m4 subdirectory, and include a line like so
in Makefile.am:
   ACLOCAL_AMFLAGS = -I m4

Anyway, this is what I am trying, because I think this way I can just
copy over new versions of the m4 files, instead of having to merge
them into my aclocal.m4 manually.
