I should have looked a little bit closer before filing that bug report,
as it looks like the test suite can be configured to use either tar or
pax, and is defaulted to pax.

Of course, it'd be nice if tar were fixed too, if possible, and I
appreciate you looking into it.

(Bdale, I'm going to reassign the bug report to pax.)
