On systems that use glibc, the name of the profile data file
(default: gmon.out) can be modified by setting the environment
variable GMON_OUT_PREFIX. The modified file name is of the form:
<contents of GMON_OUT_PREFIX>.<pid>
This feature is very handy when profile information is needed
for a forked process.
GMON_OUT_PREFIX is not documented in the gcc(1) man page,
gprof(1) man page, or any other document I have been able
to locate, other than email messages.
I believe the gprof(1) man page would be a good place to
provide documentation exposing this feature. Would a change
to the gprof(1) man page describing GMON_OUT_PREFIX be acceptable?
Thanks,
Gary
