The fear I have in this case is that "the cultural group" is one that
has been fighting wars to demonstrate that it's really two cultural
groups, with partisans on either side claiming to be the natural
default.

I have no particular opinion, but I do think that it might be wise to
check also with developers from the *other* side of this particular
hot-button issue.

I assume that even people from deepest Bavaria would agree that the
".de" label fully identifies Hoch-Deutsch.  I have been told by some
that this is *not* the case with people from, er, further south than
Croatia, who speak something that was, once, called "Serbo-Croation".
