The platform is Solaris 2.8 (installed on an E250).
"grep serial config/m4/libtool.m4" reports:

Interesting; this seems to be a new libtool failure, not listed in
autoconf-lib-link/tests/rpath.README. On which platform do you observe
this,
and what does "grep serial config/m4/libtool.m4" report?
