sorry, I didn't meant it this way.
I often suggest changes which are functionally equivalent, though I find
them nicer; I call such patches "cleanup" to emphasize that they don't
fix any bug.

Sure, I don't like the syntax either. I just thought it could help if GNU
gettext were able to ignore it. (Kind of similar to the "rm -f messages.po"
in po.m4.)
