diff (GNU diffutils) 2.8.7 on win98SE

got an error when i tried diff -u file1 file2

fixed it with set PATHEXT=.exe

I guess diff or one of its library wrongly assumes the presence of PATHEXT  
environment variable

The faulty code should be next to a getenv("PATHEXT") according to the  
disassembly.
