It's a portability problem in tests/shar-3. Solaris /bin/sh treats
"^" as an alias for "|". (This doesn't conform to Posix.) The
problem is documented in the Autoconf manual under Shell
Substitutions. Here's a patch. "make check" works for me on Solaris
8 after the patch is applied.
