See what happens when you don't look at something but every few years?
I must have mistyped my find/grep command...

I'm also remembering part of the problem with this stuff:

The autotools were improved enough that I cannot use autoupdate
and I haven't found the time and energy to re-auto-tool the thing.

Well, I have to have a successful rebuild to get  it.
