Happens to me (Win32 build 020813 and later) when I click the 'sensitive
area' (the center part of my side of the board). I also get the
'PING-you-clicked-wrong' sound.

It does not happen when I click the Roll button (recent builds) or the
clickable dice, or Game Roll, Ctrl + R (all builds).

Dragging whatever window over the GNU Backgammon window and moving it away
again 'restores' the board.
