Translucent was Off on the General Tab, so there was no Opacity for Chequers 0
& 1.
I have to turn Translucent On to get the option of Opaque chequers (Opacity =
1)! Surely shome mishtake!

How about moving the name list underneath the board? There's a lot of blank
space there. I think this would be better than Gary's suggestion of shuffling
the buttons. Windows filename lists in Explorer and open/close dialogs
automatically sort themselves into columns. This would be ideal, but I don't
know whether you can do this on gtk.
Minor nitpick: There is a little rectangle left just above the General tab.
Select one of the other tabs to see it.
