I agree. There is already far too much software trying to do clever
things behind your back and getting it wrong in the world. Let's not
create any more.
That said, however, (and this applies to most gnubg features I decide
not to implement), I have no objection if somebody else wants to
implement the opposite behaviour, as long as it is optional.
