The default paths is set at compile time. Unfortunately the SGG and TMG directory will vary across different languages, e.g, "C:\Program Files\GamesGrid\SaveGame" on English versions of windows, but "C:\Programmer\GamesGrid\SaveGame" on Danish versions of windows, so "hardcoding" a default value will only satisfy English users.
Just to make sure: Will the procedures using the path will not allow you to use DOS environment variables, such as %ProgramFiles% ? Could be a quick fix ...
The only solution is to have the installation program insert a line "set path sgg "C:\Program Files\GamesGrid\SaveGame"" (or localised analogues of that command) in the installed .gnubgautorc. I don't know if this is possible?! Øystein? If it's possible we should verify what happens when the SGG import dialog is opened when the SaveGame directory doesn't exists!
I am a little surprised to see this described as "the only solution" - especially when we have the source code available ;-).
