I have mixed feelings. Personally, I much prefer the separate
windows. Under fvwm2, with window decoartions available, I can work
with a large board and still step through the analysis, because it's
so easy to raise and lower windows. I find the new layout feels
clausterphobic when the panels are open and the board isn't large
enough for my taste with them closed (I assume this will be fixed when
the full screen option is sorted out). But I can see from the reaction
of other users that I am very much in a minority and I can live with
that. If it's too complicated to support both formats, then I suspect
that the integrated approach will reach a wider audience of users (and
even developers).

I suppose that if a compile time option can be made, and as I understand Oystein succeeded already (thank you, btw), it can neither be that hard to turn this into a GUI option.
