Hi Anton,

The problem you're describing really has me stumped, since your description of what you're doing sounds correct. I can only think of two last suggestions, though I really don't see what the problem could be:

1) Try a new Match/Game and set the players to GNU Backgammon vs. Human (instead of Current Players) and click Ok. Are the dice rolled?

2) If no dice are rolled, maybe you have a bug in your download. Try uninstalling GNU from your HD (not just installing anew over it) and then downloading from the new site: http://www.gnubg.org and see if this doesn't help.

I'm sending a copy of this e-mail to the developer mailing list.

                                                                     Albert

Hello Albert,

I just did what you asked, starting, going to new, clicking OK. It did not work. The computer did not make a move and I clicked and right clicked all over the screen. The dice did not roll.

I went to the first link in your reply and redownloaded GNU BG. Same problem. It would be surprising if this was a bug in the program. Pretty easy to discover! At the same time, I am interested to hear your thoughts.

Do you know if there are any earlier builds available for download?

Thanks again,

Anton

Hi Anton,

The tutorial is not up-to-date hence the discrepancies you are seeing. However, what you did to start a match is correct: Press the New button, select your choices and then press Ok. Mind you, you can now find the program here, http://www.gnubg.org/downloads/windows/ and updates at http://users.skynet.be/bk228456/GNUBgW.htm

Presuming you chose a game against GNUbg, if it is its turn to play it should roll the dice and begin playing immediately, and if it is your turn, it should roll the dice (since there's no double before the first roll) and wait for you to play. After that, to roll you need only click on the board itself in the center of one of the right side. You're not clicking on Edit by any chance are you? Try loading it up, and just doing the above: New --> and click Ok immediately without making any changes.

                                                             Albert

Hello,

First, thank you for creating the "All About GNU BG" page.

I've been having difficulty with the program and I'm sure that I've missed something simple. I can't get a game going. There is no toolbar on my program like the one pictured in your guide and I haven't been able to configure the options to get one.

I press the "New" icon to start a game the menu comes up I select my options (money game) and the game does not start, the roll option on the game menu remains ghosted.

Thank you in advance for any insight.

Regards,

Anton Reynolds

P.S. I am running the 0.14-devel build (April 20, 2004) on Windows XP.
