This and the resignation flag are drawn using ftgl.  When I get a minute

I seem to remember that the quickdraw option will not report a faster
speed in the test - you should just notice it is quicker (moving
chequers around for example).

The slow speed is almost definitely a slow s/w opengl driver, i.e. you
aren't getting any hardware acceleration.
