It doesn't freeze systematically on my side. As Christian was pointing out,
it freezes for a while attempting to show a message window (full of
warnings like
"'#D83F3F' is not a legal value for parameter 'chequer3d0'").
When it is finally able to show it, then it resumes normally.
Hope that this will help the GTK experts ...
