I should point out that you would well within your rights to use GNU
Backgammon source code for your product, rebrand it without GNU
Backgammon in the name, but do so in accordance with the GPLv3. The
issue I am bringing forth to this list is whether the name "GNU
Backgammon" should be associated with other products that use the
application as a marketing/advertising platform. I'm not against the
authors making money, that is perfectly fine. It is a matter of public
perception regarding the name/affiliation.

The first thing I noted when I ran the official release was a popup in
the upper left of the screen for Ask.com .

My first impression wasn't so good when I saw the in-game ad for the
first time.
