Hello Tim,
You didn't say whether it was possible for you to win the game on the
next move after GnuBG's seemingly odd move. I believe that in the endgame, if
GnuBG has more than one move that still leads to a sure win, it will pick
randomly between them. So for example, if you were at the end of a DMP game,
and GnuBG had more than one move with equity +1.000, it would just pick one,
since it only cares about winning, not about how much time it is wasting. I
hope this is helpful (and accurate).
