Could you tell what OS do these machines use ? Some version of Windows,
I suppose. Does it happenn with 3d boards ? 2d boards ? In both cases ?
Could you try to start gnubg from a terminal window (command or
powershell) in case some useful error message is printed there when it
crashes ? The Help / About GNU backgammon / Evaluation engine menu will
show where the executable file is installed in its last line.

I don't think there was a lot of testing on touch-screen devices,
possibly not at all. Does anyone here have some experience in this
area ? Maybe there are some delay parameters in the GUI that should use
different values when using a mouse and when using fingers.
