The last sentence is not entirely accurate since versions 1.05 and 1.06 
don't do the same things...

This is not necessarily the cause of the crashes, but this is 
unexpected. I don't think there is anything in the (limited) changes 
between 1.05 and 1.06 to this part of the code to deliberately do this. 
This must be a side effect of something else.

A compressed diff is attached. The interesting part starts around line 
12200.

Version 1.05 does a lot more things, but, on the other hand, the 
numerical values it passes to some glVertex4f() calls look somewhat 
suspect.
