From https://sourceforge.net/projects/open-cobol/, I'm lead to understand that r1559 is the latest. It even has commits made today. Yet, it seems years out of date.
I downloaded the source on Feb 20 this year. I can't remember where I got it from, but it was probably the "Download gnu-cobol-2.0_rc-2.tar.gz" link. Today, I downloaded the "r1559" source, today, (using "svn checkout https://svn.code.sf.net/p/open-cobol/code/trunk open-cobol-code" as well as "svn checkout https://svn.code.sf.net/p/open-cobol/code/trunk gnu-cobol", which returned identical files, as expected.) I compared the Feb 20 tree with the one I just downloaded. There's ample evidence that today's download is many years older than the Feb 20 download. Evidence includes copyright notices "(c) 2001-2012, 2014" vs "(c) 2004-2011" and ChangeLog: changes up until 2016-08-20 vs 2012-05-09. To be clear, the newer files are from the older, Feb 20, download.
This is a frustrating state of affairs. Where is the latest GNU COBOL 2
