I had a comment on the instructions in section 3.3 of the GNUPod manual,
"Convert your Mac iPod". On x86 linux with a 2.4.20 kernel, I think that
backing up the firmware requires that support for Mac partitions be
compiled into the running kernel:
CONFIG_PARTITION_ADVANCED=y
CONFIG_MAC_PARTITION=y
I have just tested this with two kernel builds and the one without
support complains:
Apr 29 16:50:28 dec kernel: sda: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled Apr
29 16:50:29 dec kernel: sda: unknown partition table
While the updated kernel recognizes the partitions on the device and lets
me make an image of /dev/sda2 and the first partition table.
Thanks for your great work.
