The problem is that the binaries (user_home and which_lib) were included in the 
tarball,  so they were not rebuilt for the new host.

Summary:  GNUstep.sh fails

Original Submission:  On RedHat 9 i386,  I was unable to run the GNUStep.sh



checking for gcc... gcc

checking for C compiler default output... a.out

checking whether the C compiler works... yes

checking whether we are cross compiling... no

checking for suffix of executables...

...

[root@dhcppc5 gnustep-make-1.8.0]# make install

Creating system domain: /usr/GNUstep/System

Creating local and network dirs: /usr/GNUstep/Local, /usr/GNUstep/Network

Creating makefile directories in: /usr/GNUstep/System/Library/Makefiles

Installing gnustep-make support software

Installing makefiles

[root@dhcppc5 gnustep-make-1.8.0]# . /usr/GNUstep/System/Makefiles/GNUstep.sh

bash: /usr/GNUstep/System/Library/Makefiles/user_home: cannot execute binary 
file

I suspect that this also leads to problems compiling base:



/usr/GNUstep/System/Library/Makefiles/which_lib: 
/usr/GNUstep/System/Library/Makefiles/which_lib: cannot execute binary file

 Linking tool autogsdoc ...

shared_obj/autogsdoc.o(.text+0xc6): In function `main':

: undefined reference to `objc_get_class'
