Follow-up Comment #4, bug #24843 (project gnustep):

I am not a freebsd expert, but as far as i understand some functions of
libkvm require procfs, some not. Read here:

the post is old though, I have the error on 7.0 release and on upcoming 7.1
beta.

When I chekc here though,
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=kvm&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+7.0-RELEASE&format=html

there is no reference to requiring procfs to be mounted.
