First of all we need to define what "install" means :)  You can just
extract it in a directory and create a symbolic link to the icecat
script in /usr/bin, that can be considered "install" IceCat.

Simply use the icecat script is the right way to execute it.  From the
error messages it seems that your friend is missing some libraries.
Please refer to the distro documentation to find which packages you need
to install for these files, or at least specify the distro you friend is
using, maybe somebody here already solved this problem and can help you.
